The results of the CT scan of Zachary's lungs and head came back normal. This is good news as the doctors were concerned that he may have a cyst in his right lung. The CT scan did show that he has some collapsed alveoli which they expect will be resolved over time. Zachary's swelling has really improved over the last couple of days and as a result he isn't nearly as puffy as he was at the beginning of the week. The doctors also took Zachary off the pain medication he has been on today and he opened his eyes and seemed more alert than we have ever seen him. The staph infection is gone and the pneumonia continues to improve. Zachary is starting to lose weight as a result of the decreased swelling (down from his peak of 7lbs. 2oz. to his current 6lbs. 11oz.). Zachary's next big step will be to get off the ventilator. There is no time table for this but we are hoping it is soon. All-in-all this has been a pretty encouraging week. We know in this game that often we take two steps forward and one step back so we're thankful to have taken a couple of steps forward.

This is wonderful news and a great picture. You can see a little personality in his eyes. He is truly a miracle baby!
