May 3, 2006

Zachary finally gets to see the world from a different angle. He loves this chair that actually massages his back while playing soothing spa type music. Who wouldn't love that?

He's still doing well on CPAP. His CO2 has been within acceptable range and his oxygen needs have been between about 26 - 35%. He has been on a reduced dose of steroids for the past 3 days, today being his last dose. The doctors will continue to monitor the CO2 in his blood and his oxygen needs. If they stay within acceptable limits he will not need any more steroids. If his CO2 level or oxygen needs increase they may start an every other day dose.

Because he is on CPAP it's easier to move him around so we have enjoyed being able to hold him more. We also really enjoy hearing his little voice. We're all quite impressed with his volume based on the fact that he was intabated for so long. We expected he would be quite horse, but it seems that he's been quiet for long enough and is ready to be heard. Hailey was thrilled to visit him today and it was a precious moment to see her face the first time she heard him cry.

Zach is still growing well and is now over 8 lbs. He looks especially big because the baby next to him is under 2 lbs. He is a very strong boy with a strong little spirit. We look forward to the day when he can meet everyone who has so much interest in his healthy recovery.

Yea Yea Yea! I'm so glad everything is going so well. He surely is a doll - too bad you can't post sound bytes, eh? Well, we continue to think of you and your family.
