They say life in the NICU is like a roller coaster, if that is true (and we think it is) this has definitely been a down week. Zach doesn't seem to like the home vent they've ordered for him. His little lungs crashed this week again on the home vent and he had to be moved back onto the hospital vent (this is his third unsuccessful attempt to transition him). The doctors are now considering trying a different home vent to see if it works better for him.
As if that wasn't enough, Zach has also contracted his third case of pneumonia and fourth staph infection (this time it is a resistant strain called MRSA that requires some heavier antibiotics) and one of his hernias is back. We joked with the doctor that Zach ought to get his seventh surgery free but I don't think he bought it. Zach will go in for another hernia repair as well as a clean-up from his G-tube surgery where they will put in a G-button for ease of access for his feedings going forward. Tieryn asked if the doctor would install G-buttons in Hailey and Clayton so they would eat their vegetables but he wouldn't go for that either.
On one good note we were able to get permission for Clayton to go in and see his brother for the first time (as evidenced by the picture above). He was so excited when we told him that he just giggled all the way down to the hospital. It was pretty neat to see him in there. The Child life specialist told him to go talk to his brother and Clayton said, "Hi buddy, I miss you so much and I want you to come home with us soon." I don't think there was a dry eye around the bed. The child life specialist said that a sibling has never made her cry before Clayton did that day. We were hoping that he would be coming home within the next few weeks but the events of the past week look to have pushed that out a little bit. The staff is planning Zach's six month birthday party (he is going to get to go outside for the first time) so we know he will be there at least until August. Our new goal is to get him home before Hailey starts school on the 14th.

I'm sorry it has been a rough week (and that's putting it mildly from the sounds of it). I'm glad that Clayton got to see his brother, though. What a sweetheart! We are praying that things go better in the coming weeks and that Zach gets to come home before too long.

Hey guys...
So glad for the update and finally Clayton is getting some face time on this blog. It is great he got to see him. I shed a few of my own tears hearing he finally got to see him and what a sweet moment. Remind him of it when he is older and Zach wants to play with him and Clayton isn't feeling those loving feelings. It continues to be our prayer that Zach will get home soon and that he will be able to endure all the many challanges he has and continues to face. He came to the right family and parents!!! We love you!
