Zach's tracheostomy surgery went well. The plan right now is to let him rest and heal. In about 5-7 days they'll start moving him around again. At about that time we'll begin some training on how to care for his trach, he'll slowly be allowed to eat by mouth again, and hopefully things will progress from there. It's nice to see his whole face and he's probably happy not to have something in his mouth or nose. They say that once babies get used to the trach they start to progress quickly. We'll let you know what the next few days bring.

I'm so glad things went well. I read up on some other sites on the internet - there are lots of kids out there with tracheostomies (sp?). Zachary is a beautiful baby and I'm glad you're going to see big progress soon.

We are relieved to hear that things went well. We hope it will prove to give him much improvement in the lung area soon. We look forward to pictures of him trying to yank it out when he is home and ready. We are freeing up our calendar for the big party coming up when Zach is home and with his family.
