This is Zach with one of his favorite nurses. Sorry it's so dark, the lights were low trying to simulate night time in the NICU. Zach was burnin' the mid-night oil as he commonly does.Our little guy showed his stuff again this week, Zach was able to successfully fight off the pneumonia and staph infections he was dealing with over the last couple of days. The unfortunate part of this is that he will have to spend the rest of his hospital time (including any re-admits after he goes home) in isolation due to the MRSA, which means we have to gown up and put on rubber gloves every time we go to see him in the NICU.
Now that his infection is gone the doctors will schedule Zach's surgery for his hernia repair. It looks like it will happen next week at this point. Following recovery, the doctors have talked to us about transferring Zach to the intermediate care (IMC) facility within the hospital, which sounds encouraging, although they are now telling us that he will probably stay there for a while as they are not going to try to push him onto another home ventilator at this point. It looks like we may get to know the only part of the hospital we haven't been in after all. There will be some benefits to the transition but we were hoping our next transition would be home not to another part of the hospital.

WE knew Zach was made of tough stuff. Hopefully this upcoming surgery will be his last and he can start packing up his bags. We are always grateful for the updates and to see how he is doing. I guess I never realized he probably hasn't been in the dark too much in his young life. we love you all and continue to pray for a speedy recovery.
Darn. We too were hoping for home to be his next transition. But we're glad to hear how strong he is - still fighting to get better no matter what comes his way. Way to go Zach! Best of luck this week!
