August 18, 2006

We tried to upload a picture today but couldn't get it to work for some reason.

The past several days have been pretty good for Zach. He made the move to the PICU and seems to be handling the move pretty well. He now has his own corner room which is much quieter than the NICU (when his alarms aren't going off). The visiting policies are a little easier on us (Clayton can visit) and should be good for us once we adjust.

Zach's breathing support requirements have been constant and his oxygen is in the 40-50 range which is much better. His digestive issues however, are still somewhat of a mystery. He is currently getting 1cc/hour continuously. 30cc is 1 ounce, so he's not getting much. The majority of his nutrition comes from TPN through IV. They took Zach to radiology the other day to try and replace his g-tube with a tube that goes through the stomach and empties directly into the intestine. Unfortunately the radiologist was un able to get the tube placed so his feeds still empty into his stomach. They may try again later to see if they can get the tube to the place they want.

We think this change will be good for Zach and hope his new doctors will have some fresh approaches to Zach's issues. We haven't met all of his new doctors and nurses but we hope to over the next weeks. Thanks for checking in we appreciate all the prayers and words of encouragement. We love y'all.

HOpefully the next move will be out the door and home to Leah Lane. We are glad he is adjusting and hopefully the new nurses and doctors will be as loving as the last ones. We continue to pray for a resolution to the digestive problems, hopefully something will be determined soon and he will be able to get some more food. Much love to all of you from all of us!!!

Glad to hear that his move went smoothly and as always, we too continue to pray that his doctors will be guided in finding solutions to help him! I hope Hailey is enjoying the start of school and Clayton doesn't miss her too much!
